The award recognised the outstanding contribution of the recipients to the highly successful South-East Queensland Forests Agreement which initially adds 425,000 hectares to the conservation reserve system and establishes a plantation program that will lead to the transition of the native forest timber industry to a plantation base over 25 years.

Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council

The Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council presented ARCS President, Dr Aila Keto, with a Golden Gecko Award in 1999 for her outstanding contributions to the conservation of native forests in South-East Queensland through the SEQ Forests Agreement.
